Last Friday, I received a package from a bookstore in Vancouver containing 3 new books for our library. The books are written by a man named Greg Mortenson. I've read one of the books, Three Cups of Tea, and was amazed by the story. Greg's passion and dedication to helping others has led to him to build schools in remote Afgahistan and Pakistan, and has led him to have a deep understanding of the people and their cultures. Greg's organization, The Central Asia Institute (see Student Links), is now overseeing the building of more and more schools. Greg feels that education is key to achieving peace, especially for girls. He also feels that this message is so important that he has donated his books to every school library in the Greater Victoria School District (among others). Please support Greg by reading his website and/or books to find out more about his work.
Three Cups of Tea is Greg's first book. There is also an adapted version of the book for young readers.
Stones for Schools is the story of what Greg has done since....We have a copy of all Greg's books in the library. Come in and learn more about Greg's schools and projects.
